Biography: Authors & books I’ve worked with
I joined Andrew Nurnberg Associates in 2025 after a career as an editor, primarily at Penguin Random House, most recently as Editorial Director at Viking/Penguin, and previously at The Bodley Head. I was recognised as a Bookseller Rising Star in 2023.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with authors to turn complex ideas into books that are insightful, original, and accessible to a wide audience. My work spans the following subject areas:
-
I commissioned books by bestselling historians including Julia Boyd, Simon Jenkins, and Sinclair McKay, published archaeologists such as Chris Gosden and Tom Higham, and worked on fast turnarounds such as the UK edition of Timothy Snyder’s On Tyranny and On Ukraine. I cut my teeth as part of editorial teams behind #1 bestsellers from Antony Beevor to President Obama.
Forthcoming topics include histories spanning Britain’s maritime dominance to India’s role at the heart of the modern world.
-
I published A.C. Grayling – whom I now represent – and Ben Ansell, whose Why Politics Fails underpinned his Reith Lectures, alongside authors including Ibram X. Kendi and Chelsea Manning. I also published an updated edition of Francis Fukuyama’s The End of History and was part of editorial teams behind influential books by Daron Acemoglu & James A. Robinson and Steven Levitsky & Daniel Ziblatt.
Forthcoming topics explore how cities, rather than nations or companies, drive economic fortunes, and the history and future of innovation and investment.
-
At Penguin Random House, I edited books by leading academics including Dana Carney, Russell Foster, Shane O’Mara, Charles Spence, and Chris Summerfield, as well as emerging pathbreakers like Leor Zmigrod and skilled synthesists such as journalist Kate Murphy.
Forthcoming topics include the spectrum of human imagination and the dynamics between human behaviour and political systems.
-
I published bestselling and prize-winning scientists including Mark Miodownik, Luke O’Neill, and Devi Sridhar, alongside academics whose books have been published around the world, including Arik Kershenbaum, James Poskett, and Kate Kitagawa with her co-author Timothy Revell.
This strand of my work comes together in Vaclav Smil, whom I published and now represent. In the course of our ongoing collaboration, he has achieved his first New York Times bestseller, has been published in 35 languages, and has sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide.
Forthcoming topics span social insects and the role of energy efficiency in shaping the modern world.
-
As an editor, I published Will Gompertz, worked with the estates of Mahatma Gandhi, John le Carré, and Spike Milligan, and commissioned works from bestselling writers including Richard Coles, as well as a book directly with the British Army. Upcoming topics range from Shakespeare to ultra-cycling.
These authors have topped both the New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller lists and won major awards including the Nobel, Baillie Gifford, Pulitzer, Wolfson History, and Royal Society Science Book prizes.
