Vaclav Smil is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Manitoba and a true polymath. He has written over fifty academic books spanning energy, environment, population change, food production, technical innovation, risk assessment, and public policy. His works have been translated into 35 languages, and for general readers include Numbers Dont Lie, the New York Times bestseller How the World Really Works, Size, How to Feed the World, and Speed. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, he was named by Foreign Policy in 2010 as one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers.
